Every year, hundreds of communities take a beating. These are the towns, cities, counties and tribal areas that suffer the casualties, damage and disruptions inflicted by hazards. Recoveries may span months to years, and in some severely stricken communities, the job of rebuilding may stall and never be completed.
The message is as clear as a bell. Every community faces the risk of disaster.
It’s not if, but when.
The size of that risk, however, can be reduced significantly, before the unpredictable day of reckoning arrives. When a river pours over its banks, or an earthquake causes structures to crumble, the consequences need not be disastrous, if a community has acted to improve their resilience—their capacity to absorb a shock and bounce back up … and forward, is phenomenal.
The Eco-Community is Totally Self-sufficient
The Eco-Community has succeeded in constructing beehive-like structures strategically located in rural Alaska, the facility is to accommodate 500 adult members plus children.
The criteria that has been included is viability, elevation, land contour, accessibility, privacy, security and in the best surroundings of nature and resources. The Eco-Community is strategically located away from potential ground-zero blast areas and at high altitudes, while proximity is important, survivability is more important.
First the facility is engineered to withstand the most likely catastrophic forces of both nature and mankind. Second the interiors are designed with cheerful color schemes, comfortable furnishings and community gathering areas. Third each family group has private domicile suites for personal and private family time.
Included within the newly built shelter is a network of living quarters for each family group. These domicile suites vary in size, and configuration to complete the fully furnished living quarters. Each domicile includes; kitchenette, dining area, living area, bathroom, bedroom (for larger family groups), small storage area, and laundry facility.
The design and overall scale of the facility allows for optimum ‘personal space’, with plenty of private areas for members to retreat to.
The community gathering areas include; community lounges and meeting areas, media area, study areas with a small library of educational and entertainment materials, exercise gym with equipment, community public bathrooms, an urgent care medical, dental and eye center, security office, full size communal kitchen and cafe area, pet kennel living quarters, communications center, communal laundry facility, tailor shop and aquaponic garden stocked with plenty of fish, non-hybrid seeds, farming tools, along with mechanical and support equipment to fully power and operate the community.
The entire facility is certified organic with an aquaponics growing garden and farm. In our commitment for sustainability, the community raise quail for fresh eggs, maintain miniature horses, pygmy milking goats, rabbits and fish.
The community facility has been outfitted with deep underground water storage tanks for a continuous supply of fresh water, wind power and solar power generators, all working together to provide a steady source of natural power.
Pets Are Welcome
The Community Management Board understands and respects the emotional benefits and companionship a pet can bring to the lives of its owners and others that encounter it. In situations of trauma and illness pets have been known to bring comfort and even assist in the healing process of most people. The bond between a pet owner and their pet is usually very deep and a special love that cannot be replaced. With this understanding, The Eco-Community is a pet friendly community. Service animals are welcomed to accommodate their handlers at no extra cost.
Being part of a community is integral to any sustainable way of living. A good community can teach us to care for and respect one another, communicate compassionately, make decisions together, and to see our individual needs in the context of the whole met.
Our community members have agreed to gather together under catastrophic events that may threaten our current living conditions and or financial future, to help one another through such events as well as receive help and guidance, offering their skills and connecting through community gatherings and activities.
